Michael Pope

Senior Project Designer

Michael was trained in architecture at Kent State School of Architecture earning a degree in Integrated Studies. Throughout college, Michael worked in the construction industry building houses with a small home builder. His first construction management experience, while still in college, was project managing the renovation of a greenhouse with a new air inflated Polyethylene sheeting system, replacing an antiquated and costly glass frame system.

From 1990 to 2016, Michael owned a technology company specializing in designing and building custom dedicated home theaters. During that time, his team won numerous national design awards in the consumer electronics industry. Michael served on the prestigious Board of Industry Leaders for the Consumer Electronics Association (promoters of the global Consumer Electronics Show).

Michael’s college training, construction experience, and technology experience allows him to combine “blue collar” and cutting-edge technology. Michael’s ability to create life-like 3D renderings of BBD’s designs help clientele visualize what their new spaces will look like. Michael

implemented a cloud based Project Management program that not only aids in managing all of BBD’s projects, but also provides individual portals for our clients to monitor job progress.

Mary Gerard

Senior Designer

With over 25 years in the design and construction industry, Mary Gerard brings a rare combination of spatial design expertise and construction fluency to every renovation. Her career spans nationally recognized interior architectural firms on the East Coast, boutique design practices in the Mid-West, and more than 15 years leading her own design-build firm — overseeing over 180 residential renovation projects from concept through completion.

Mary understands that modern homes must meet new demands and specializes in maximizing the function and flow of residential properties. She is passionate about about rethinking how space is used – rearranging layouts, removing inefficiencies, and unlocking underutilized areas. When an addition is appropriate, she ensures new space integrates seamlessly with the original structure, both architecturally and structurally.

Her deep understanding of construction and finish materials informs every design decision. From framing and rough-ins to final installation, Mary anticipates how dimensions, sequencing, and material selections will translate in the field. Not all interior designers possess this level of construction fluency. The ability to collaborate effectively with trades, evaluate installation methods, and source materials allows her to be a steady bridge between homeowner and contractor – protecting design intent while respecting budget and constructability.

Equally important is the guidance she provides clients throughout the selection process. Renovation involves countless decisions, particularly when it comes to finishes. Mary educates homeowners on material performance, maintenance considerations, scale, proportion, and aesthetic balance — empowering them to make informed, confident choices that align with both their lifestyle and investment. Each selection is made with intention, ensuring the finished home feels cohesive, refined, and deeply personal.

Renovation can feel complex. Mary’s role is to bring structure, discretion, and confidence to the process, ensuring that what is designed on paper is executed with precision and that expectations align seamlessly with the final result.
