This dynamic basement renovation transformed a 20-year-old country club home into a fully customized entertainment suite—designed to support gathering, gaming, and year-round enjoyment, anchored by a full-scale golf simulator.
Understanding the Client & Existing Conditions
The homeowners envisioned a multi-purpose lower level that could accommodate a home theater, bar, card area, pool table, and putting green. As the design evolved, the addition of a golf simulator became a priority, introducing significant spatial, structural, and technical requirements within the existing basement footprint.
Design Process & Planning
Early design planning was critical to balance ambition with feasibility. We collaborated closely with the clients to study ceiling heights, structural constraints, mechanical systems, and circulation. By addressing potential challenges upfront, we were able to develop creative solutions that supported both performance and aesthetics—while maintaining clarity around scope, budget, and construction sequencing.
The Renovation Solution
To achieve the required 10-foot ceiling height for the golf simulator, we excavated three feet of the existing slab and rebuilt two exterior walls. The design navigated numerous obstacles, including multiple support posts, low ductwork, and a wall-mounted water meter located within the theater zone. A glass wall was introduced between the simulator and lounge areas to maintain openness while controlling sound and function. Spaces were subtly defined using contrasting epoxy floor finishes, divided by a faux golf path that reinforces the home’s country club setting. Built-in cabinetry within the theater discreetly conceals utilities and equipment, resulting in a clean, integrated presentation.
